Report lodged over viral video showing man beating dog with hammer

IPOH: A report into an alleged incident of animal cruelty here has been lodged with the Department of Veterinary Services following a video of the incident going viral on social media.

When contacted, Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) president Ricky Soong said the incident occurred on Saturday (Jan 19) night.

"I received a call about the matter at about 9.30pm from a neighbour. Police did go over there to warn the suspect, I was told,” said Soong.

He added that he was told that the man then took the dog into the house, and the neighbour claimed they could no longer hear the dog's barks.

Soong said the neighbour alleged the man had a hammer and a knife.

"I have lodged a report with the Veterinary Services Department (DVS), and I hope they take the necessary action," he said.

Efforts have been made to contact the police regarding the matter.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said he would check on the matter when contacted.

In the post that went viral, a video was attached in which a man can be seen beating a dog with what appears to be a sledgehammer

The dog seems to be tied to the front gate of a house in Taman Ria.

A woman, believed to be the one recording the video, is heard speaking in a Chinese dialect and appears upset.

The video was posted on the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better Facebook page, detailing the incident in the neighbourhood.

It was claimed in the post that the suspect lives opposite the complainant's house and attempted to kill his dog, and it was also said that the police were informed about the matter immediately.
