No loss of life in Klang explosion, say Selangor police

PETALING JAYA: An explosion at a chemical factory in Klang has not claimed any lives, says Selangor’s police chief.

Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, in a statement, confirmed that the incident occurred on Monday (Jan 20) at the Kapar Bestari Industrial Park in Klang.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the explosion stemmed from chemicals kept at the factory compound. There was also damage to the building and nearby factories.

"No loss of life has been reported so far," he said.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the substance that caught fire was recycled acid.

"A tanker lorry was damaged and caught fire due to the explosion," he said.

He added that the department's Hazardous Material Unit (hazmat) conducted a check and found that the air quality was normal.

"The Hazmat team is still inspecting the area while waiting for the Environment Department," he said.

Ahmad Mukhlis also said no one was injured in the incident.
