MCA will uphold principles

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will continue to uphold its principles and deliver on its commitments with the support of its members and allies, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said that moving forward, MCA will remain steadfast in working alongside Chinese guilds and associations for the benefit of the community.

Dr Wee was speaking at MCA’s Chinese New Year reunion luncheon, which saw more than 400 guests, including party veterans and leaders from Chinese guilds and associations, come together to celebrate the festive occasion.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to members and allies for “coming home” to Wisma MCA for the reunion yesterday.

“During last year’s reunion dinner, some party veterans shared concerns about driving at night after the event. Taking their advice, we opted for a luncheon this year, allowing everyone more time to mingle and enjoy good food in great company,” he said.

Dr Wee expressed happiness at seeing so many familiar faces and thanked the attendees for their unwavering support over the years, which he attributed to the strong bond between MCA and the Chinese community.

Also present were MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, vice-presidents Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Datuk Lawrence Low and Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, Wanita MCA chief Datuk Wong You Fong, MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon and other central committee members.

The luncheon in Dewan San Choon began with the traditional yee sang tossing, symbolising prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.

Guests were then treated to an elaborate seven-course feast accompanied by a vibrant musical showcase, including a performance by singer Zeng Ai Jia, often referred to as the “Malaysian Teresa Teng”.

Adding to the festivity, 90-year-old party veteran Datuk Lim Soo Kiang delighted the crowd by performing Elvis Presley’s No More and the Indonesian classic Bengawan Solo.

Dr Wee also showcased his musical talent, belting out the Mandarin pop ballad Friends by Wakin Chau and the iconic Cantonese classic Hoi Fut Tin Hung (Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies) by Beyond.

Former MCA leaders Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Tan Sri Tan Koon Swan, Tan Sri Lim Ah Lek and Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy also attended the event, alongside figures such as Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia deputy president Datuk Looi Hei Tyng, business leader Tan Sri William Cheng, Dong Zong president Datuk Tan Yew Sing, Jiao Zong chairman Cheah Lek Aee and other distinguished leaders.
