Tik Tok dog sensation ‘Ngor Ngor’ dies, leaving admirers saddened

KOTA KINABALU: A beloved online famous grumpy pet dog in Sabah’s Ranau district has been a source of joy and companionship for many in the virtual world.

However, the chubby male canine named Ngor Ngor which has its own Tiktok account - https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS6XkfYvS/ - with over 30,000 followers, died recently on Friday (Jan 15), and brought about an outpouring of sadness amongst internet users.

Its owner who goes by the name Ira on Facebook announced the passing of her pet on Jan 15, with a sad message saying goodbye to Ngor Ngor, thanking him for the joy it has brought to their lives for so long.

“Thank you Ngorngor for being our entertainer all this while. NgorNgor is gone guys,” she said thanking internet users for their love for the dog.

“Ngorngor will be remembered forever,” she wrote with two photos - one of the dead dog and another of a small burial site for it, attached to the post.

It is unclear what caused the death of the dog but some claimed it was poisoned and called for the authorities to conduct a post-mortem on it.

Ira had also shared an update saying that she suspected Ngor Ngor was poisoned, but there were no verifications on this opinion.

Many users have also gone to social media to express their condolences and sadness, saying how much they would miss his funny antics.

Ngor Ngor rose to online fame last year when its owner posted a video of herself asking the dog to ‘ngor ngor’, to which it obeyed and growled.

Its owner had previously mentioned how the dog, which was one of a litter of three, was a rescue and had been run over by a vehicle when it was a puppy.

There were some bone issues and other injuries following the accident, and the family did not think that it would survive but the strong puppy did while its two siblings, which were also run over by the car, died.

The incident was believed to have obstructed some of its growth due to the injury and the dog grew up to be fat.

The dog grew to fear human touch, is known to be grumpy, loved food and liked chasing children who came near to taunt it, but would stop running after a few steps.

It couldn’t be touched or petted after its accident (probably due to trauma or pain at the time), and it was only recently that a family member or two managed to touch it and pet it.

Social media users had asked the family to bring it to the vet for a medical checkup and to at least bathe the dog but they explained that it was difficult because they could not even touch it, let alone carry it.

However, Ngor Ngor was a sweetheart and loved the attention he got from those around him.

Its owners even managed to build a nice kennel for it but it preferred to sleep on the ground.
