Three perish in JB house fire, teen boy suffers burns on face

JOHOR BARU: Three people including a young girl died while a teenage boy suffered burn marks in a fire incident at a house in Kampung Oren in Ulu Tiram here.

Johor Jaya fire and rescue station operation commander Rafie Ahmad Sareng said the department received a distress call about a fire incident involving a house along Jalan Limau Manis at 2.46am on Friday (Jan 17).

“We immediately deployed 24 firemen with two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), two Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) and one pick-up truck from Johor Jaya and Tebrau fire stations.

“When we reached the location at 3am, the house was engulfed in fire. We received information that there were four people inside the premises.

“Firemen had to break the front grill door to enter the burning house. We were able to rescue a 13-year-old boy in the living room area,” he said.

Rafie added that firemen then found the bodies of a female adult and a young girl inside a bedroom while another body, an adult male, was found inside a toilet.

“The surviving victim who suffered burn marks to his face and hands was given early medical treatment at the scene before being sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for further medical treatment.

“The three victims that died at the scene suffered serious burns on their bodies,” he said, adding that the fire caused 80% damage to the house as well.
