SEREMBAN: No evidence of gold was found in the river area in Lenggeng, where gold mining activities were reportedly taking place, says state Land and Mines Office.
Its director Mohd Faizal Abdul Manap said his office, along with the state Minerals and Geoscience Department went to the location on Wednesday, but no gold discoveries were made.
“Initial findings found no gold there. Officers from the Minerals and Geoscience Department took samples for analysis,” he told Bernama.
Mohd Faizal said only one company had been granted a gold mining licence in Gemas, but mining operations have yet to commence.
On Wednesday, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun rubbished claims that gold was being illegally mined along Sungai Lenggeng.
Responding to a viral video clip on social media, he also denied allegations that both Lenggeng assemblyman Datuk Mohd Asna Amin and him had received millions from the sale of the prized mineral.
In the clip, a person claimed that instead of sand-mining activity, gold was being illegally mined along the river stretch.
It was alleged that the company mining the gold was a proxy for the Mentri Besar and Mohd Asna.
Aminuddin maintained that a company, which also owned land in the area, had been awarded a licence to mine sand as well as rehabilitate the river bank.
