Crawling on the bread: Village Grocer apologises for cockroach in bakery

PETALING JAYA: Convenience store Village Grocer has apologised for an incident at its Bangsar baker.

Responding to a Facebook post in which a customer claimed to see a cockroach crawling around the bread section, the grocer said the situation was extremely serious and regretted it.

"Upon learning of the incident, our Bangsar bakery has been closed for business with immediate effect.

"All bakery products on display have been disposed of and a comprehensive pest control and deep cleaning process is underway, encompassing all areas of the bakery, including equipment and display units," it said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 16).

Village Grocer added that the bakery would remain closed until its internal audit team has conducted a thorough inspection and confirmed that all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and safety.

"We value your trust and apologise for any inconvenience this incident may have caused as we are committed to upholding the highest standards of food safety and hygiene at all times," Village Grocer added.
