SHAH ALAM: A Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) head of department has been charged with corruption.

Nor Hasyimah Tamziz, 50, who heads the council’s Information Technology Department, was accused of committing the crime on May 9, 2019.

She claimed trial to the charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code, before Sessions Court judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin, for allegedly receiving RM3,500 from a contractor in her capacity as department head.

The mother of four allegedly received the inducement at a bank branch in Klang through her personal account at the same bank.

If found guilty, Nor Hasyimah faces a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) DPP Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin asked for bail to be set at RM10,000.

He also sought for Nor Hasyimah to surrender her passport to the court and present herself at the Selangor MACC office at the beginning of each month.

Nor Hasyimah’s counsel V. Ayasamy pleaded for the bail to be halved to RM5,000, citing that the accused had four children to support.

Mohd Nasir then set bail at RM8,000 with one surety, and imposed the additional conditions proposed by Muaz.

He then set May 5 for case mention.
