Three killed in multi-vehicle crash on highway near Rembau

REMBAU: Three individuals lost their lives in a collision involving four vehicles at km226.5 of the North South Expressway near Rembau.

Rembau police chief Supt Shaik Abd Kadar Shaik Mohamed reported that the accident, which involved a lorry and three cars, occurred around 5.40am on Jan 15 along the northbound stretch between Senawang and Ayer Keroh.

The deceased include the lorry driver, Mohd Esa Daharin, 73, his attendant, Md Usuf Ali, 44, a Bangladeshi national, and a car passenger, Terence Ng Zhi Yang, 21.

Five others sustained serious injuries while two escaped unharmed.

According to Supt Shaik Abd Kadar, the lorry, transporting flowers and soil, was en route from Ayer Keroh to Senawang when the driver allegedly lost control.

The vehicle collided with the guardrail on the right side of the expressway before halting in the left lane.

Three trailing cars failed to stop in time and crashed into the lorry.

The lorry driver and his attendant died instantly from severe head injuries, while Ng, an undergraduate, succumbed to his injuries at Rembau Hospital.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
