PUTRAJAYA: Facilities introduced in preparation for Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship - including dedicated lanes for official delegations - are now ready, says Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister said the government has taken steps to ensure activities and meetings proceed smoothly despite delays with the Aerotrain Replacement Project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
"Several facilities have been provided, including dedicated transportation for official delegations, starting from the aeroplane door and special lanes.
"These facilities are in place specifically for the purpose of the Asean chairmanship," the government spokesman said at his weekly post-cabinet meeting press briefing on Wednesday (Jan 15).
Fahmi was asked whether the government had discussed steps following the delays of the Aerotrain project since Malaysia is the Asean Chair this year.
Earlier, Transport Minister Anthony Loke expressed disappointment over the delays, saying the contractor has yet to provide a firm date for when it will be operational again.
Loke said the Aerotrains are currently in the testing phase.
"Now it is dynamic testing and it will be full testing later. After that, there will be a system integration," Loke said earlier at a separate press conference on Wednesday.
Regarding the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, Fahmi assured that similar facilities will be extended for such purposes.
