Anti-drug agency officials charged with false claims totalling RM138,570


KOTA KINABALU: An assistant chief director and an assistant officer of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) here were charged for making false claims amounting RM138,570 between 2018 and 2019.

The assistant director Bakri Bibi, 53 and assistant officer Abd Gani @ Ghani Keruput pleaded not guilty to a total of 41 false claim charges made against them before Special Corruption Court Judge Jason Juga here, Wednesday (Jan 15).

Bakri had an additional charge for allegedly asking for bribes to approve office cleaning contracts for the AADK in 201. He pleaded not guilty to the charge as well. The case was framed under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power.

In the first set of 27 charges, Bakri and Abd Gani were accused of making false claims for food and beverage supplies during events around Tawau amounting RM91,570 in 2018 and 2019.

For the second set of 14 charges, they were both accused of submitting false documents to claim for event expenses totalling RM47,000 held in 2018 and 2019 as well.

All these charges are framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code for fraudulently or dishonestly using as genuine any document that he knows or has reason to believe is a forged document.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dzulkarnain Rousan Hasbi and Norsham Saharom prosecuted.

Counsel Lim Chun Yuan represented Abd Gani, while Bakri was not represented.

Both accused were allowed RM30,000 bail, with a local surety, ordered to hand over their passports to the court and instructed to have no contact with witnesses to the case.
