Photographer pleads not guilty to injuring two fashion designers


KUALA LUMPUR: A freelance photographer, who went viral for allegedly injuring two fashion designers working for cosmetics entrepreneur Datuk Seri Vida, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here.

Sinar Harian reported that Muhammad Imran Khairil, 30, claimed trial to two charges of injuring the victims at a hotel in Petaling Jaya, before Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad.

According to the charges, Muhammad Imran, dressed in a black long-sleeved shirt in court, was accused of intentionally causing injury to Azmi Abdul Rahman, 47, and Raziman Din, 53, by using a camera as a weapon.

The offence allegedly occurred on the first floor of a hotel between 8.45pm and 9pm on Wednesday (Jan 8).

He faces two counts under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means, which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Husna Amran proposed bail of RM8,000 with one surety for each charge.

Muhammad Imran's lawyer, Datuk Suraj Singh, appealed for a nominal bail amount, citing his client's uncertain income.

"He cooperated when arrested and did not try to escape, so there is no reason for my client to avoid attending this trial," he said.

Farah Azura allowed bail at RM3,500 for each charge and imposed a condition that Muhammad Imran must not disturb the two victims.

The court set Feb 28 for the case to be mentioned.

Sinar Harian had earlier reported that Vida was shocked when two of her fashion designers were injured after being attacked by a photographer at an awards ceremony at a hotel at 8.40pm on Wednesday (Jan 8).

Both victims, who suffered wounds to their cheeks, received treatment before the organisers filed a police report.

It is understood that the incident stemmed from personal issues.
