13th Malaysia Plan to focus on education, talent development, says Rafizi

KUALA LUMPUR: The 13th Malaysia Plan will place greater emphasis on talent development, says Rafizi Ramli.

The Economy Minister said the focus will be on education, upskilling and skills, noting how Malaysia Plans are usually seen and synonymous with economic plans.

“It’s all about the talent.

“All these grand plans we have are dreams on paper unless we make sure that we scale up our education all the way from primary to tertiary and make sure our workforce can leapfrog to suit the demand.

“If anything, it should be more exciting to the country as it involves everyone,” he said in a fireside chat at the Malaysia Economy Forum here on Thursday (Jan 9).

He added that the previous Malaysia Plans were perceived to only be about economic plans where only certain groups of people would read it in detail.

“With a focus on talent, education and skills, it will be relevant and applicable to all Malaysians,” he said.

Rafizi said they also intend for the next Malaysia Plan to be “very dramatic and radical”.

“It is about preparing the foundation and changing the structure that suits Malaysia’s next phase as a developed nation,” he said.

The session was moderated by Maybank Group president and chief executive officer Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli.
