Victim was shot four times, say Johor cops


JOHOR BARU: The victim of a fatal shooting in broad daylight at a restaurant in Taman Setia Indah here sustained four bullet wounds to the body, says Johor police.

State police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said a special Criminal Investigation Department team has been formed to conduct a thorough inquiry and identify all individuals involved.

“The cause of death and the motive behind the incident remain under investigation.

“The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and initial investigations revealed the victim sustained four gunshot wounds to the body,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 8).

Comm Kumar urged the public not to speculate or make comments that could hinder the investigation or manipulate facts that might worsen public anxiety.

"The Johor police assure the public that this is an isolated case with no connection to broader security issues or threats to the state of Johor," he said, adding that there was no cause for panic.

Earlier, a 40-year-old man was shot and killed at a restaurant in Taman Setia Indah while dining with several friends.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 12pm, and a resident alerted authorities through the MERS 999 emergency hotline.

He added that a video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

"Preliminary investigations identified the victim as a 40-year-old male. The victim was pronounced dead by the medical team from Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI).

"The police are actively investigating to identify those involved, locate witnesses, and determine the exact cause," he said.
