Woman dies, baby in critical state after collision on Jalan Johor Baru - Ayer Hitam


KLUANG: A female cook has died while a seven-month-old baby girl is in critical condition from a collision between their multipurpose vehicle and a lorry at KM86 along Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the MPV was ferrying eight people from Muar after attending an engagement ceremony in the 7.15pm incident on Sunday (Jan 5).

“Initial investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 53-year-old man, was heading from Machap to Ayer Hitam when he lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane.

“The lorry then hit the MPV's right side causing serious damages to both vehicles,” he said here on Monday (Jan 6).

ACP Bahrin added that the lorry driver sustained injuries to his head and chest and was being treated at Pantai Hospital in Batu Pahat.

“A female passenger, identified as Widiani Afendi, sustained serious head injuries where she died at the scene.

“A seven-month-old baby girl also sustained a serious head injury and is currently being treated at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Kluang Hospital red zone,” he said.

ACP Bahrin added four other individuals including the MPV driver, ages between six and 58 years, sustained minor injuries and were under treatment at the same hospital.

He said police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged those with information to contact the Kluang police hotline at 07-7766822.
