Perak cops bust cockfighting gambling ring, 26 nabbed


IPOH: Some 26 people, including 18 Indonesian nationals, were arrested by the police for allegedly taking part in a cockfighting gambling ring in Tapah.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat said the arrests were made during an Op Dadu anti-gambling operation at about 2pm on Wednesday (Dec 25).

DCP Zulkafli said the operation was jointly held by the police Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division (D7), criminal investigation unit and the district police.

"Those arrested included eight local men and 18 Indonesians, which included a woman, all aged between 31 and 50.

"The police also seized 49 chickens, five cages and 22 mobile phones and about RM18,314," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 26).

"The case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act and Section 32(1) and Section 32(2) of the Animal Welfare Act.

"Those arrested would be remanded for four days until Dec 29 to facilitate investigation," he added.
