Government starts anti-dumping duties review

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Government has started an administrative (sunset) review of anti-dumping duties on imports of cold-rolled coils of iron or non-alloy steel over 1,300 millimetres wide.

This excludes tin mill black plate and specific merchandise for automotive and transformer finwall end use originating from China, South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.

The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry said the review follows a request from Mycron Steel CRC Sdn. Bhd based on concerns that the expiry of anti-dumping duties could lead to continued or renewed dumping and harm to the domestic industry.

"The government has evaluated and considered the information and decided to initiate an administrative (sunset) review on imports of the subject merchandise from China, South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam under subsection 28(6) of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993 (Act 504) and regulation 34 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Regulations 1994," it said on Wednesday (Dec 25).

It added that in accordance with Act 504 and the Regulations, a final determination of the review would be made within 180 days from the date of initiation.

The ministry then said that it would distribute questionnaires and documents to relevant interested parties and added that those wishing to request the questionnaire must do so by Jan 8, 2025.

Interested parties may also submit their views, along with questionnaire responses and additional supporting information to the ministry by Jan 23, 2025.

It added that if interested parties do not provide the necessary information, or if submissions are inadequate within the specified time limit, the federal government may make its final determination based on the available facts.
