UM student group urges action over sexual harassment claims against professor

PETALING JAYA: The Universiti Malaya Feminism Club (UMFC) held a demonstration on Friday (Dec 20), urging university administrators to take firm action against a professor accused of sexual harassment.

UMFC demanded for the university to revisit the memorandum they submitted last March, proposing for the creation of an anti-sexual misconduct committee and to improve campus safety policies.

It was reported that around 30 students and alumni members gathered outside the UM's chancellery building.

UMFC, in a statement on Monday (Dec 16), had alleged that a professor had sexually harassed some students by sending them inappropriate pictures of himself.

It added that reports had been lodged against him but no action was taken.

UM issued a statement on Wednesday (Dec 18) saying that the case was being investigated by authorities and could not comment any further.
