Not mightier than the sword: Sabah man beaten, threatened for getting girlfriend pregnant

KOTA KINABALU: A man was allegedly beaten up, threatened and locked in a room by two men in Tawau for getting their relative pregnant.

The 27-year-old was called to the house at Kg Merotai Besar by his girlfriend, Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin told the media on Friday (Dec 20).

He said the man claimed that the girlfriend’s father asked him to go into a room, and he was then locked inside.

"Her father and elder brother then allegedly beat him with their fists and a belt, and threatened him with a samurai sword," he added.

ACP Jasmin said the man also claimed that his attackers used a hot iron on him, causing him to sustain burns on his arm.

He said the man received a WhatsApp message from his girlfriend telling him she was pregnant, and a second message at 7am on Tuesday (Dec 17) asking him to go to her house.

ACP Jasmin said the man claimed that when he arrived there at around 3pm, he was cornered by her father and brother and told to go into the room.

He added that after the alleged assault and threats, the man got out of the house by breaking a window before running to seek help from other villagers.

A police report was lodged and at 10.30pm the same day, police detained two men aged 30 and 64, and a 25-year-old woman, he said.

Police also seized an iron, a mobile phone and a samurai sword, ACP Jasmin added.

He urged the public not to speculate on the case as the investigation for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation is still ongoing.
