TASIK Kenyir, which experienced a significant decline in visitors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is now showing signs of recovery.
The lake – the largest man-made lake in South-East Asia – has attracted 360,240 visitors in the first 11 months of this year, Kosmo! reported.
Terengganu tourism, culture, environment and climate change committee deputy chairman Sulaiman Sulong said this marked an increase of over 65% compared to 218,157 tourists in 2023.
Tasik Kenyir is known for its nature-based tourism and recreational fishing activities.
“In 2020, there were 208,097 visitors to Tasik Kenyir, followed by 277,969 in 2021 and 246,846 in 2022. For comparison, this popular tourist destination recorded 607,398 visitors in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
> Icon Entertainment had to wait two years to realise its dream of organising a show for legendary music group KRU, the daily also reported.
The founder of the concert organiser, Iman Tang, said he first reached out to Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim on Nov 1, 2022, but his proposal was initially declined.
“At the time, Yusry told me they were ‘retired.’ His brother Edry had settled in the United Kingdom, while his other brother Norman was busy with business ventures.
“However, I didn’t give up and kept persuading the three of them. Finally, in September this year, they agreed to stage their biggest concert titled Konsert Genkru,” he said.
The concert will be held at Axiata Arena on May 3, 2025.
