Cops bust over 40 syndicates, arrest 426 in 12-day nationwide operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has arrested 426 people, including 146 Malaysians, in a nationwide operation lasting 12 days.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said that the operation, dubbed Ops Khas 83/2024, was conducted from Nov 25 to Dec 6.

He said the CCID-led operation saw raids against call centres across the country, leading to the arrests of suspects linked to 40 syndicates.

Among the operations smashed included nine fake investment scams, nine job scams, and 12 online gambling operations.

"Investigations showed that the call centres not only targeted victims in Malaysia but also from all over the world including the United States, China, Japan, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

"As of now, 261 suspects have been successfully charged in court," he said in a press conference on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Comm Ramli also noted that 35 houses were used as call centres.

"Owners should be aware of activities conducted on their premises. Those who allow criminal activities to operate on their premises can be viewed as conspirators and the police will not hesitate to charge those with colluding with criminals," he said.
