Immigration Dept rescues human trafficking victims in Cheras raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly a dozen human trafficking victims were rescued in an Immigration Department raid at three locations in Cheras.

In a statement on Wednesday (May 10), Immigration Department Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said three Bangladeshi men, believed to be the masterminds, were arrested. A 32-year-old Bangladeshi woman was also apprehended.

In total, 11 Bangladeshi men, aged between 30 and 38, were rescued.

Investigations revealed that the victims were brought in under tourist passes and placed in transit homes. They were charged RM15,000 each for services, with an additional RM5,000 fee to leave the transit home.

During the raid, authorities seized around 17 Bangladeshi passports and 20 mobile phones.
