94 on birthday honours list

KLANG: A total of 94 people have been shortlisted to receive various awards and medals at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s 79th birthday today.

Heading this year’s awards list are Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd executive director Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong with the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor award, which carries the title Datuk Seri.

They are followed by the former head of the prosecution division at the Attorney General’s Chambers Datuk Nik Suhaimi Nik Sulaiman who will receive the Dato’ Setia – Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah award, which carries the title Datuk Setia.

Among the 11 recipients of the Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor award, which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women, are Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Australia Sharrina Abdullah, Malaysia’s ambassador to Morocco Shahabudeen Adam Shah, Kuala Lumpur Family Court judge Evrol Mariette Peters, Selangor executive council member and Pandan Indah assemblyman Izham Hashim, Sungai Buloh Army Camp’s 11th Infantry Brigade commander Brig Jen Shahir Hafizul Abd Rahman, Federal Territory Land and Mines Department director Rahilah Rahmat, Selangor Public Services Commission board member Cheremi Tarman, Securities Commission Malaysia managing director Datin Azalina Adham, Perdana Parkcity Sdn Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Joseph Lau, AEON Bank (M) Berhad chief executive officer Raja Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz and Ranhill Utilities Berhad director Faiz Ishak.

Among the 15 people who will receive the Dato’ – Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah award are Bernama chief executive officer and first woman editor-in-chief Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Media Chinese International Ltd group editor-in-chief cum Sin Chew Daily editor-in-chief Kuik Cheng Kang.

The other recipients of the award, which confers the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women, are Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque chief imam Muhammad Farhan Wijaya, Malaysian Islamic Development Department director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, Selangor Royal Council secretary Hanafisah Jais, Selangor Fatwa and Khutbah committee member Dr Muhammad Ayman al-Akiti, Lembaga Zakat Selangor board member Badariah Abd Jalil, Mentri Besar Selangor Incorporated chief executive officer Saipolyazan Mat Yusop, Palmco Hotels Sdn Bhd director and Selangor and Federal Territory Spastic Children Association board member Michael Leow Kean Teck, Milestone Power Sdn Bhd director Norhamidi Abdul Rahman, TH Travel & Services Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Tengku Badlishah Shukri Tengku Ibrahim, Rafulin Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Mohamed Rafee K Chekku, IJM Corporation Bhd group chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Lee Chun Fai, Sunway Group executive director Sarena Cheah Yean Tih and IOI Corporation Berhad group managing director Datuk Lee Yeow Chor.

National bowler Natasha Mohamed Roslan will be the sole recipient of the Ahli Kegemilangan Sukan Selangor.

Meanwhile, 11 people will receive the Setia Mahkota Selangor, 11 people the Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, 16 people the Ahli Mahkota Selangor, 17 people the Ahli Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, two people the Bintang Kecemerlangan Sukan Selangor (BKS) and seven people the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang.

The two athletes who will receive the BKS are national petanque player Saiful Bahri Musmin and national cyclist Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan.

These awards and medals do not come with any titles.

A media statement signed by Selangor state secretary Datuk Haris Kasim said a total of 2,593 nominations were received for the awards and 1,472 nominations for the medals.

The list of 94 shortlisted candidates was perused by a special committee before being forwarded to the Royal Council technical committee meeting on Dec 4.

Following this, Sultan Sharafuddin consented after conferring with the Royal Council.

Haris said the shortlisted candidates were also screened by the police, the Insolvency Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
