Twenty-eight cases of bullying at public universities reported since 2010

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 28 cases of bullying have been reported across 20 public universities since 2010, the Dewan Negara was told.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud (pic) said the ministry through the Malaysian University Student Disciplinary and Conduct Council, is in the process of developing guidelines to comprehensively address bullying in public universities.

"These guidelines will outline clear policies and procedures for managing bullying cases in all public universities and are expected to be ready by March 2025," he said during Question Time in the Dewan Negara on Tuesday (Dec 10).

He was responding to a question from Senator Tan Sri Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh on measures taken by the ministry to tackle bullying in universities and ensure incidents like the recent case involving a trainee at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia do not recur.

To a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Mustafa Musa, Mustapha said that the disciplinary committee not only takes action against students involved in bullying but also investigates and addresses the role of university officials in such cases. – Bernama
