BAM committee member among those called by MACC, confirms Azam Baki

PETALING JAYA: A high-ranking committee member of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is among those assisting the probe into alleged corruption, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the BAM committee member was one of the six individuals called to assist in investigations.

"I want to clarify that the probe involves just one individual, not BAM as an entity or organisation.

"Rest assured that the individual linked to the allegations will also be called in," he told reporters after closing the national-level International Anti-Corruption Day celebration here on Monday. (Dec 9).

Last Tuesday, BAM confirmed in a statement that it was being investigated by the MACC.

This included MACC officers visiting the BAM office to gather further information.

An online portal had previously reported that an anonymous tip-off sparked the MACC probe involving allegations that high-ranking BAM officials received additional allowances without board approval.

Last Wednesday (Dec 4), BAM acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam did not rule out the possibility that someone could have tipped off MACC as a means to throw a wrench into the body’s upcoming elections ahead of next year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
