KUALA LUMPUR: Setting the mood at the 50th anniversary celebration of Wanita Barisan Nasional was award-winning violinist Jessica Loo.

As Loo took to the stage to play a medley of patriotic and popular pop songs, the women from the Barisan component parties clapped and cheered.

The World Trade Centre Hall took on the atmosphere of a small concert as the women danced along to Loo’s motivational music at the event yesterday.

“I did not expect this kind of reception. When I went to the floor, so many people wanted to take photos.

“It was difficult to perform, but I tried my best to focus,” Loo said.

“I was not told what songs to play, so I decided on motivational songs that would lift the mood and make the audience happy.

“Since this is a Malaysian event, I also decided to incorporate popular Malaysian songs such as Saya Anak Malaysia,” she added.

Loo, 43, is a Malaysia Book of Records holder as the first violinist to play the instrument while paragliding.

The various Wanita wings of the Barisan component parties – Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS – praised Loo’s performance for setting a festive tone for the convention.
