Smart City Action Plan prepared by several local authorities, says Perak exco

IPOH: Several local authorities in Perak have already prepared the Smart City Action Plan studies as the state moves towards mastering information communications technology to strengthen urban development, says Sandrea Ng Shy Ching.

The state housing and local government committee chairman said this aligns with the implementation of the Perak State Smart City Blueprint 2040 as a step to promote and attract investors and stakeholders to carry out initiatives at the local authority level.

Ng said that among the local councils which have prepared the studies are the Ipoh City Council, Teluk Intan Municipal Council, Manjung Municipal Council, Perak Tengah District Council, Kampar District Council, and Kerian District Council.

She added that several other local authorities are in the process of preparing the studies at their respective local council levels.

"We are strengthening urban development via a sustainable and smart city approach to enhance the well-being of urban residents," she said.

"Among the efforts that have been implemented by the local authorities towards the realisation of smart cities is the creation of the action plan document as a reference, guide, and direction to ensure systematic smart planning," Ng said.

She said this when replying to a question by Ishsam Shahruddin (Barisan-Ayer Kuning) at the state assembly sitting on Tuesday (Dec 5).

Ishsam had asked about the efforts made by the local authorities towards the implementation of the smart city.

Ng added that the existing smart city initiatives implemented by the local authorities encompass seven components: smart governance, economy, living, environment, mobility, digital infrastructure and people.

"The local authorities also monitor the planning and direction of smart city development, as well as the implementation of initiatives and programmes through the smart city committee meetings at the respective local council levels," she said.

"The development of a command centre or mini dashboard has been established by the Ipoh City Council to facilitate and streamline the management, monitoring, and information collection processes based on the web," she added.
