Ruler wants closure on footballer’s acid attack

Unbowed: 26-year-old Muhammad Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after being doused with acid by an unknown assailant outside a mall in Petaling Jaya.

KUALA LUMPUR: As Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah wants a swift closure to the case of the acid attack on Selangor FC player Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim, the authorities have been urged to identify the perpetrators.

The Sultan of Selangor expressed his grave disappointment over the delay in the case, saying that it is a “simple and clear cut” case.

“With social media and modern technology, you cannot hide anything.

“I followed the case in the state assembly and hope somehow this could be resolved soon.

“This is a clear cut case and the incident has destroyed Muhammad Faisal’s life,” he told The Star.

The 26-year-old footballer suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after being doused with acid by an unknown assailant outside a mall in Petaling Jaya on May 5.

Asked if His Royal Highness believed that there was a hidden hand behind the case, Sultan Sharafuddin said: “To be precise, somewhere there (seems to be) a remote control.

“But I do not want to accuse any parties,” the Selangor Ruler said.On Nov 29, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the investigation into the acid attack is still ongoing.

Razarudin confirmed that the probe has not been halted, with police arresting three individuals and recording statements from 23 others.

However, no evidence has linked the suspects to the crime.

Earlier on Nov 22, Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said the state government had yet to receive updates from the police on the investigation’s progress.

Back in June, Muhammad Faisal voiced hope that his attackers would be brought to justice.

The Selangor Ruler called on the police to expedite the investigation of the case.

“He is a good player and I think he is a good guy, but I do not know for what reason he was attacked.

“The police must take quick action on this,” Tuanku added.
