Chinese national to be charged with kidnapping student

JOHOR BARU: A Chinese national is expected to be charged here on Thursday (Dec 5) with the kidnapping of a 15-year-old student in Singapore.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the 22-year-old man would be charged under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting a person with the intent to wrongfully confine them in secret.

The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

The 15-year-old Chinese student was allegedly kidnapped in Singapore before crossing over to Malaysia with the suspect willingly on Nov 24.

Her father, a 48-year-old Chinese national, lodged a missing persons report with Singapore police at about 2.15pm on Nov 25 after his daughter failed to turn up at her school that same day. He also alerted Johor police that she was missing.

The teen was later found by Malaysian police in Kuantan, Pahang, following a raid on Nov 26.
