PETALING JAYA: A mother who was found unconscious alongside her daughter’s body in a flood-affected house in Kampung Gual To'Deh has passed away on Tuesday.

Yusnieta Mohd Lawi, 40, died while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) at 6:30am in Kota Baru.

According to Sinar Harian, she had been admitted to the hospital three days ago, the same day her nine-year-old daughter, Nur Iezarra Zaliefa Abd Talib, was found dead near the door of their home.

Both were transported out of the flood-hit area, where waters were between 0.9 and 1.5 metres deep, using a dump truck to reach the hospital.

Pasir Mas District Police Chief, Asst Comm Kama Azural Mohamed, confirmed Yusnieta's death due to a stroke.

“The child’s mother passed away while receiving treatment at HRPZ II.

“Nur Iezarra Zaliefa was previously confirmed by the hospital to have died from pulmonary edema,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yusnieta’s sister-in-law, Norshazlina Jantan, 32, shared that she learned of the sad news from Yusnieta’s eldest child, Muhammad Denish Alfi Ald Talib, 14.

She said the family had been anxious since Yusnieta was hospitalised, as they were informed her condition was unstable.

Only Yusnieta’s husband, Abd Talib Abdullah, 42, and Muhammad Denish, were present at the hospital.

“Previously, Nur Iezarra’s remains were laid to rest at the Kampung Gual To'Deh Islamic Cemetery two days ago after a post-mortem was completed.

“Yusnieta’s remains will also be buried at the same cemetery,” she said.
