Auxiliary policeman dies after colliding with SUV involved in accident with nine cows

PETALING JAYA: An auxiliary policeman was killed after the car he was driving collided with an SUV involved in an earlier accident with nine cows at Kilometer (km) 57 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru Road near Rhu 10 on Tuesday morning.

Setiu District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris, said the accident, which occurred around 6am, claimed the life of the victim, Che Mohd Nasir Jaafar, 56, from Pasir Mas, Kelantan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to him, the incident happened as the victim, driving an MPV, was travelling from Kuala Terengganu towards Kota Baru, while an SUV was heading from Penarik towards Kuala Terengganu.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the SUV collided with nine cows that were on the road.

“As a result of the collision, the vehicle is suspected to have veered into the opposite lane and came to a stop in the middle of the road.

“A few minutes later, as the SUV driver exited his vehicle to manage the situation, the victim’s car approached from the opposite direction and crashed into the SUV,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian on Tuesday (Dec 3).

Supt Mohd Zain said both vehicles were heavily damaged at the front, while the SUV driver escaped unharmed.

“The victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Setiu Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“This case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.
