ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has consented to Johor’s intention to host football matches for the 2027 South-East Asian (SEA) Games, says state executive councillor Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.
The Johor youth, sports, entrepreneur development, and cooperatives committee chairman said Tunku Ismail gave his consent during an audience on Thursday (Nov 28).
“I am grateful to the Johor Regent for his faith in us. With his consent, my team and I will be submitting an official application to the Youth and Sports Ministry to be one of the hosts for the SEA Games.
“However, further details, including the cost and locations involved, will only be determined after meetings with the Johor Sports Council and the SEA Games’ secretariat,” he said.
He said this in a press conference at the sidelines of the Johor state assembly sitting here on Sunday (Dec 1).
On Wednesday (Nov 27), Hairi said Johor was considering offering venues for football matches during the 2027 SEA Games.
He said that Johor’s accessibility and good sports facilities were among the advantages that make the state a good fit for the venues.
Meanwhile, in a separate press conference, Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said food samples in relation to a food poisoning case in Muar have been collected.
“The results of the food samples collected, which include porridge, are expected to be available within this week,” he said, adding that the affected pupils are in stable condition.
On Thursday (Nov 28), Ling said that 13 pupils from Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu in Muar suffered from food poisoning after consuming food sold at the school's canteen.
The canteen involved has been ordered to shut down for two weeks, starting the day of the incident on Wednesday (Nov 23), for cleaning work.
