Cops hunt for murder suspect in Kinabatangan


KOTA KINABALU: The police are on the hunt for the suspect who slashed the throat of a man and stabbed another during a brawl at an estate in Kinabatangan.

“We are hunting for one Ricky Tenny, 40, to facilitate probes into this case,” said Kinabatangan acting police chief Asst Supt Mohd Zulfikar Abd Salam.

The deceased victim was identified as Christian Andi, 30 and the injured victim was identified as Bernadus Bagalewok, 24.

ASP Zulfikar said the police received a call about the incident at around 2.06am, on Saturday (Nov 30), from the Telupid Hospital.

He said In a statement on Sunday (Dec 1) that the hospital staff informed the police that two male victims were being sent over. One died, and another had stab wounds.

Initial investigations found that both Christian and Bernadus were attending another friend’s child’s birthday party when they got into a fight with the suspect, he said.

“It is believed the incident happened around 11pm on Friday (Nov 29),” said ASP Zulfikar.

He said the suspect and the two victims lived in the same workers' quarters.

The suspect was said to have slashed Christian’s throat while they were arguing. Bernadus, who was also there, was believed to have been attacked when he tried to intervene.

“When Bernadus ran towards the suspect, he was believed to have gotten stabbed in the chest,” said ASP Zulfikar, adding that the suspect then fled with the weapon.

He said Christian managed to run 30m to call for help before collapsing and succumbing to blood loss.

ASP Zufikar said the suspect and Christian were believed to be drunk during the incident.

Christian’s body was taken to the Forensics Unit at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for post-mortem while Bernadus was being treated at the same hospital.

He said a manhunt has been mounted for the suspect, and this case is being investigated for murder and causing grievous hurt.
