Cops nab man for abusing cat


KUALA LUMPUR: A 43-year-old man was detained here in connection with allegedly abusing a cat.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the suspect was detained at his home at about 6.10pm on Sunday (Nov 24).

"A team from the Brickfields CID Serious Crime Division (D9) arrested the suspect.

"We are investigating under Section 428 of the Penal Code.

"The suspect will be remanded for further investigation," he said in a statement Monday (Nov 25).

He urged those with information on the incident to contact the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222 or any neary police station.

It was reported that a police report was lodged in connection with the abuse of a cat in Old Klang Road.

A video of the alleged abuse, showing a man dragging a cat using a rope, which was tied to its neck, has since gone viral on social media.

An individual who saw the video lodged a police report at about 5.26pm on Saturday (Nov 23).

The complainant also saw the address of where the incident occurred in the comment section of the video post.

The case is classified under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, he said.

The police report and the video were referred to the Kuala Lumpur Veterinary Department officers for further action.
