Foreign national arrested for gouging man’s left eye during fight in Penang


BUTTERWORTH: Police have arrested a foreign national for allegedly gouging out a man's left eye during a fight that took place in Ara Kuda on Saturday.

Penang Police Chief, Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested following the altercation, which occurred at around 2pm and left the 52-year-old victim with serious injuries.

"Based on initial investigations, the victim, a local man, had provoked the suspect before the suspect attacked him, injuring both of the victim’s eyes," he said.

Comm Hamzah added that the victim has been sent to Kepala Batas Hospital for further treatment and is reported to be in critical condition.

He said the suspect has been remanded and is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
