21.6% of graduating UTM students have already secured high-paying jobs, says VC

JOHOR BARU: Some 21.6% of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) students graduating this year have secured employment earning premium salaries of RM4,000 and above, says UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail.

He said this marks an increase from last year’s convocation, where 18.4% of employed graduates achieved similar salaries.

"According to data from the Higher Education Ministry’s Graduate Tracer Study for this year's 68th convocation, 21.6% or 480 out of 2,225 first-degree graduates, have secured jobs with premium salaries.

"Meanwhile, 22.6% of UTM’s students graduating this year are employed with global multinational companies (MNCs).

"This prove that the quality of UTM graduates, in terms of academics, skills, and etiquette, is highly relevant to meeting the demands of a progressive job market," he said.

He said in a press conference about the university's convocation ceremony, which will be held between Nov 16 and 21 here.

Ahmad Fauzi added that the university is no longer only ensuring graduates are employed, but also for them to have good paying jobs.

"UTM graduates have 100% employability. As such, our new aspiration and target is now to produce Tier 1 premium graduates.

"This group includes graduates who successfully secure jobs with premium salaries over RM4,000, as well as those working in MNCs and government-linked-companies (GLCs)," he said.
