No elite Mara colleges yet but there are programmes for top performers, Dewan Rakyat told

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no elite Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) colleges at this time, says Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang.

“We have never established an 'MRSM elite',” she told the Dewan Rakyat during question time on Wednesday (Nov 13).

“However, the Mara management has established programmes (for top performers) such as Bitara, Ulul Albab, IGCSE, Technical and Premier,” she added.

She said while all 57 MRSM colleges operate based on the Malaysian education system, the five programmes are offered as added value.

Citing Bitara MRSM as an example, she said the entrance requirement is 4As and 3Bs.

“Top performers are placed in this category. But we will not label this as an elite MRSM,” she said.

Salamiah Mohd Nor (PN-Temerloh) had wanted to know if there were elite MRSM colleges.

Rubiah said the prerequisites for MRSM enrolment are that candidates and their parents must be citizens; candidates must take the entrance examination; and their parents or guardians should not be on Mara's blacklist.
