When a superstar singer is your photographer

DURING a visit to KL Tower, a father and son asked a man to take their photo – only to later realise that their photographer was none other than Taiwanese superstar Jeff Chang (pic), also known as the “Prince of Love Ballads”.

China Press reported that the 1990s music icon, who is in Malaysia for his Ultimate Continuum World Tour, initially planned to visit a monkey feeding spot but decided to go to KL Tower’s observation deck instead due to rain.

While there, the father and son approached him for a photo, unaware of his legendary status.

Chang graciously took the photo, and his team later joked that the unknowing encounter had turned the simple snapshot into a priceless keepsake.

Chang’s hit songs, which have captivated hearts in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South-East Asia, include Believe, Don’t Tell Him and Tolerant.

His magnetic vocals and sentimental love singles won him the Best Mandarin Male Singer Award at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards in 1996, among many other music accolades since.

> Sin Chew Daily reported that after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 9th London East Asian Film Festival, veteran Hong Kong movie star Simon Yam felt like turning a new page in his career.

He said receiving the prestigious award was akin to a fresh start, allowing him to continue seeking room for growth.

“It’s like starting a new chapter in my film career. This award brings me progress. The more I travel around the world, the more I feel how small I am,” he added.

He said he celebrated his award with his family.

A photography enthusiast, Yam also said he had accumulated a lot of artwork over the past three years, revealing some of his pieces to the media.

He said the theme of his collection is “My Garden” and that he had held a photography exhibition in Malaysia over 20 years ago.

“I plan to hold another one in Malaysia next year,” he said.

Yam, who loves Malaysia, has also learned several Malay words, greeting people with “Kakak”, “Abang” and “Adik”.

He added that he loves Malaysian food but has learned to say “Gula tak mau” (no sugar) to maintain his figure.
