KUALA LUMPUR: A 53-year-old man has been detained over the murder of an elderly woman whose body was found in a freezer in Taman OUG here.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said police were alerted to the matter at 8.48am on Tuesday (Nov 12).

"The body has been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

"We are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

It was previously reported that the woman was allegedly murdered by her son three years ago who hid her body in a freezer.

The suspect had apparently contacted the police about the body.

Sources said that the suspect was standing next to the freezer when police arrived at the scene.

Brickfields police headquarters are conducting further investigations at the scene.
