University student gets flung out of car in fatal Perak Tengah accident

IPOH: A university student was killed after being flung out of a car in an accident at Jalan Teknologi 1 in Seri Iskandar, Perak Tengah, about 40km from here.

Perak Tengah OCPD Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah confirmed that the 19-year-old chemical engineering student at Universiti Teknologi Petronas died on the spot on Sunday (Nov 10) at about 8pm.

Supt Hafezul Helmi said the car, which was driven by the victim's friend, had lost control leading to the incident.

"The victim and three of his friends were headed towards the Seri Iskandar Business Centre from the university.

"The car suddenly lost control, spun, hit a divider, rolled a few times before stopping on the side of the opposite road," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 11).

"The victim was flung out of the vehicle as it rolled around during the incident," he added.

Supt Hafezul Helmi said the driver was seriously injured while two other passengers sustained minor injuries.

He said the victims have been sent to the Changkat Melintang Hospital for treatment and post-mortem.

"The cause of death for the deceased was categorised as polytrauma consistent with road traffic accident," he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

"Those with information can come forward to the nearest police station or call 014-679 0829.

"We also want to advise the people to be careful while driving on the road," he said.

"Motorists should also adhere to the traffic rules and refrain from driving recklessly," he added.
