RM1.86mil in summonses settled in first two days of KL cops' 50% discount campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic summonses worth RM1.86mil have been settled in the first two days of the police 50% discount campaign.

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department of Kuala Lumpur is holding the five-day campaign from Tuesday (Nov 5) until Saturday (Nov 9).

Its Bukit Aman director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said 17,002 summonses were settled in the first two days.

"We collected RM1.86mi in paid summonses.

"A total of 3,100 people came to the department's KL headquarters to settle their summonses," he told a press conference on Thursday (Nov 7).

The summonses were paid via cash, e-payment and 50% coupons, he added.

"On the first day, 1,300 people came to settle their summonses while the second day saw 1,800 turning up.

"We can see the people are eager to settle their summonses and take advantage of the discount," he said.

On Thursday, a long queue began forming outside department headquarters here from 7am.

Comm Yusri advised the public to settle summonses within the given time to avoid being penalised further.

"Adherence in paying summonses shows that the people are responsible road users.

"Delaying payment will only burden them further in future," he said.

A total of 40 department officers and personnel will be on duty daily for the duration of the campaign.

A total of 15 counters, three special counters (for the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women) 14 e-payment machines as well as 350 chairs have been set up for the period.

The 50% discount is offered for all traffic offences except accidents, court cases, non-compoundable offences, overtaking dangerously, improper use of emergency lanes or running red lights.

Offences related to heavy vehicles, exhaust modification, Ops Selamat summonses and overtaking along double lines are also not discounted.
