Cops classify student's fall as Sudden Death


SEREMBAN: Police have classified the death of a 16-year-old male student who fell from the fourth floor of a school block here as Sudden Death.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said that the school's CCTV showed that the deceased had fallen from the fourth floor.

The student was declared dead by paramedics around 7.45am.

He said police had received a call about the incident at 7.11am.

"The deceased suffered injuries to the head, face and right shoulder and the cause of death has been attributed to falling from a high place.

"Several teachers and students who witnessed the incident have been called to have their statement recorded," he said.

ACP Hatta advised the public not to spread rumours or make misleading statements to prevent public confusion or unease.

He urged those with information related to the case to call the state district police station at 06 6033 222 or the Campbell station at 012 770 7282.

Earlier, the school in a statement to all parents, staff and students said it had immediately called for an ambulance after the incident which happened around 6am.

The school added that it would extend its fullest cooperation on the matter.

Counsellors would also provide counselling to all students to help them cope with the incident.

"The school regrets the incident and we extend our condolences to the family of the deceased.

"We will assist the family in any way we can till investigations are completed," it said.

A police vehicle carrying the student's body was seen leaving the school premises around 10am.

His body was taken to hospital for post-mortem.

When contacted, a state Education Department spokesman said it was preparing a report of the incident.

"We are only preparing the preliminary report as the police will be probing the case," he said.
