Teenager dies, four badly burnt from an electric shock in Kedah

PADANG TERAP: A teenage boy died while four others were injured after being electrocuted in a rice field in Kampung Tanjung Putus, here, on Wednesday (Oct 30).

In the incident, Muhammad Hariyz Akief Noraimi, 14, who was also a student at the National Secondary School (SMK) Dato Syed Ahmad, died while receiving treatment at Kuala Nerang Hospital, reported Sinar Harian on Thursday (Oct 31).

Padang Terap (IPD) Management Division Head, Asst Supt Yukhrul Mohd Yusof, said the incident is believed to have happened at 6.30pm when the victim and his four friends went to the area to get an artificial fishing bait that was stuck on an electric cable.

He said one of the victim's friends got on the motorcycle seat and tried to hook the artificial bait using an aluminium pole.

"At that time, the victim (Muhammad Hariyz), along with his other friends, held the motorcycle so it wouldn’t fall.

"While trying to hook the artificial bait, the five teenagers got an electric shock, causing them all to faint.

"The four friends of the victim (Muhammad Hariyz) regained consciousness shortly after, but the victim (Muhammad Hariyz) was unconscious.

"All the victims were sent to Kuala Nerang Hospital by the villagers, and upon arrival at the hospital, the medical officer confirmed that Muhammad Hariyz had died," said ASP Yukhrul when contacted on Thursday.

He said, the body of Muhammad Hariyz was taken to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) Alor Setar for an autopsy.

He said, the other four teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 19, had burns on their legs, body and face. They received treatment at HSB.
