Najib's apology a sincere gesture, says Umno sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno believes that Datuk Seri Najib Razak's public apology for the 1MDB scandal demonstrates his genuine intentions and leadership qualities.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a statement on Friday (Oct 25), said that the apology highlights Najib's commitment to prioritising the people's interests.

"Umno believes this statement comes from Najib's pure and sincere heart, reflecting his genuine feelings," Asyraf said.

The party emphasised that Najib was misled by irresponsible parties seeking personal gain and that his apology to Malaysians signifies his noble character and unwavering love for the nation.

Umno and its members hope for justice and the exposure of the true masterminds behind the SRC and 1MDB cases.

At the Kuala Lumpur court complex on Oct 24, Najib expressed deep regret for the corruption incident during his tenure as prime minister.

He expressed shock at the extent of the "wretched shenanigans" and said he was misled and misunderstood the funds as political donations. Najib, facing numerous charges, awaits a court decision on Oct 30 regarding his defence.
