Police supervisors must effectively monitor subordinates, says Selangor chief

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Police Chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan says that there is a need for every supervisor in the police force to closely scrutinize their subordinates to deter any misconduct.

Echoing the sentiments of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin, he added that the force would not tolerate its members engaging in criminal activities or actions that damage its reputation.

"Supervisors have the duty to observe police officers who live lavishly beyond their means. We will take strict action against those involved in corruption, abuse of power, drug abuse, or any other offences," he said during the Selangor police's monthly assembly on Thursday (Oct 24).

Comm Hussein then said that the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has a critical role in detecting and apprehending suspects involved in illegal gambling, vice, and gangsterism.

"The CID must stay ahead of criminals to effectively combat all forms of crimes, including white-collar and cybercrimes," he said.

He praised the Selangor CID for achieving a 10.8% reduction in the state's crime rate from January to September this year, compared to the same period last year, with 9,158 cases reported.

"Their prosecution rate of 51.5% also exceeded this year's target of 45%. Their efforts in crime prevention deserve recognition," he added.

In preparation for the northeast monsoon, Comm Hussein said that it is important that the police are ready when it comes to disaster management.

"Police play a vital role in maintaining public order during such emergencies. Officers and personnel must be well-versed in managing disasters effectively," he said.
