Seven-year-old boy killed by falling concrete slab in Melaka


MELAKA: A seven-year-old boy has lost his life getting hit by heavy debris from a concrete decorative slab that fell off a three-storey building at Komplex Al-Azim in Bukit Baru here.

The victim's five-year-old brother and his 42-year-old father escaped with minor injuries in the 10.15pm incident on Tuesday (Oct 22), said Melaka police.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said police identified the deceased as Ong Lun Keat from Taman Bukit Baru Solok Bukit Pulau here.

"The deceased and his brother had accompanied their father to a bank next to the affected building when the incident happened.

"The three were standing outside a Domino’s Pizza outlet when they were hit by the falling debris," he said on Thursday (Oct 24).

ACP Christopher Patit said a 34-year-old Domino’s Pizza outlet manager also lodged a police report on the same day after six motorcycles parked outside the building were also damaged in the incident.

He said the postmortem report carried out by Melaka Hospital on Wednesday (Oct 23) revealed the deceased had succumbed to multiple injuries after getting crushed by heavy falling debris.

ACP Christopher Patit added the deceased was believed to have been killed on the spot due to the impact of the falling debris.

Eye-witnesses when interviewed said the the deceased and his brother were brought to the bank by the father on a motorcycle before the incident occurred.
