Cops probe claims of mistreatment of Abuya’s daughter

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating claims made by the daughter of “Abuya”, Ummu Atiyah (pic), that she was a victim of mistreatment and confinement by members of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB), says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the 41-year-old woman gave her statement at the Kuala Sungai Baru police station in Melaka on Sept 24 and investigations into her claims that she was confined in a room at a GISB charity home in Batu Hampar, Perak, are ongoing.

Razarudin said the victim, the eldest of eight siblings, had previously received psychiatric treatment at Taiping Hospital in 2018.

She is currently dependent on treatment and medication from Melaka Hospital, he added.

“The process of obtaining the victim’s medical report and statement is ongoing.

“Tomorrow, the victim will be taken to the location where she claims to have been confined to assist in the investigation,” he added.

Razarudin said police are also tracking down four men suspected of being involved in the confinement incident to assist with the investigation.

Meanwhile, Ummu Atiyah, who is the daughter of former Al-Arqam leader Ashaari Muhammad, alleged that the incident occurred when she was forced to marry a GISB leader in 2015.

“At that time, I really refused... I didn’t want to marry him because he was old and overweight, and I was disgusted by him,” she told Sinar Harian.

“After receiving a WhatsApp message, I fled to my friend’s house in Jordan... then he and his followers came and demanded I turn myself in. They caused a commotion until 2am.”

The article further quoted Ummu Atiyah as claiming that she was forced to surrender and was asked to shake hands with the man as a sign of agreeing to marry him. However, she claimed that when she refused to do so, she was separated from her child, taken to Turkiye, abused and ultimately raped.

“I was burnt with a lighter and submerged in a pool. My younger brother, a follower of the leader, asked me to remove my clothes to show the individual,” she alleged.

“I had been dunked for over an hour. I was gasping for air as I swallowed a lot of water. My chest hurt.

“I was afraid that I would die, so I had to say yes,” she said.
