10-year-old Seremban girl injured trying to protect younger siblings from monkey attack

SEREMBAN: A 10-year-old girl sustained injuries to her leg after she was attacked by a monkey in the compound of her house in Taman Warisan Puteri near here, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.

The incident happened around 4.20pm on Sunday (Oct 13) when the victim Nur Keisha Marissa Mohd Irfan was helping her mother Nurul Farahana Zaini, 35, hang out the laundry.

Nurul Farahana said her two other children, aged five and two years old, were also present when the incident happened.

"As we were putting out the laundry, a monkey suddenly emerged and was about to attack the children.

"Marissa tried to protect her younger siblings from being harmed by the wild animal but ended up being bitten on her left leg," she told Sinar Harian.

She then took a piece of wood to chase the monkey away.

Nurul Farahana said she rushed her daughter to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital for treatment as her injuries looked serious.

"Marissa had to be warded as she sustained deep wounds which required stitches.

"Doctors will continue to monitor her closely this week to ensure her wounds do not get infected,"she said.

She said the residents had reported the presence of the monkeys to the relevant authorities previously.

Nurul Farahana also expressed hope that immediate action will be taken to prevent a recurrence.
