More than 100,000 water consumers in Seberang Perai affected by scheduled water supply interruption


BUTTERWORTH: A total of 118,093 water consumers in Seberang Perai will be affected by a scheduled water supply interruption from 10pm on Oct 4 (Friday) to 10pm on Oct 5 (Saturday).

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said the scheduled water cut was necessary to rectify a leaking pipeline issue that is affecting water supply services in Central Seberang Perai (SPT) and Southern Seberang Perai (SPS).

"A new 180m-long pipeline section will be connected and commissioned near the Politeknik Seberang Perai campus in Permatang Pauh on Oct 4," said PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 2).

He said the new pipeline section would replace a pipeline section that had been damaged by the contractor of another utility company about two weeks ago, with the projected rectification works costing about RM2mil.

"PBAPP will deploy water tankers and static water tanks at strategic locations in SPT and SPS during the period.

Pathmanathan said PBAPP would work towards completing all water works and water supply normalisation works as planned.

"We will also provide regular updates on the progress at the work site through our Facebook page," he said.

PBAPP reminded consumers in SPT and SPS to store water for use during the interruption and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
