4WD vehicle bringing Khadijah Ibrahim spun, overturned in accident, say cops

KOTA KINABALU: Veteran performer Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim and two others were fortunate to escape with only minor injuries after their vehicle overturned in a road accident on Monday.

The mishap occurred when the four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle they were travelling in spun and overturned following a collision with a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) in Sabah’s southwestern Beaufort district.

The 64-year-old singer and her two aides managed to crawl out of the overturned 4WD, which had landed on its side. Two people in the MPV also suffered minor injuries in the incident, which occurred along Jalan Kinamas at 5:20pm.

Beaufort police chief Deputy Superintendent Ismail Abdullah said the 4WD was heading to Kota Kinabalu from Beaufort, while the MPV was travelling in the opposite direction. According to DSP Ismail, the MPV driver lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve into the opposing lane.

"The 4WD driver attempted to avoid a collision but was unable to do so due to the short distance," he said. "The MPV then crashed into the right back wheel of the 4WD, causing it to spin and overturn, while the MPV came to a halt."

All the victims escaped serious injuries and the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for negligent driving. Passers-by assisted in sending all five victims to the hospital.

When contacted by mStar, The Star's Malay-language portal, Khadijah said she didn't sustain serious injuries.

"I am Ok, nothing serious. Just a bit of soreness on my head, shoulder and neck," she said.

Khadijah said she would be going to the hospital later on Tuesday (Oct 1) to get an X-ray and other necessary checks.
